MASTER's
PROJECT
“The Love Your Heart” offers an engaging and educational experience focused on the science behind the importance of maintaining healthy blood pressure. The exhibit aims to help individuals take control of their heart health by increasing cardiovascular health literacy.
Developed in partnership with the Augusta University ROAR Initiative and the Augusta University Medical Illustration Graduate Program, the exhibit features a hands-on Self-Care Blood Pressure Testing Station where visitors can learn how to measure their own blood pressure and better understand what their numbers mean.

ABOUT ME

Laura Castro is a second-year graduate student at Augusta University pursuing a Master of Science in Medical Illustration. She is passionate about creating work that helps people understand their own bodies and the world around them. As an AU student, Laura collaborated with the Augusta Free Derm Clinic to create a brochure serving as a learning resource about eczema for the clinic’s patients. Additionally, in partnership with the Phinizy Center for Water Sciences, Laura designed an infographic to teach high school students about wastewater treatment using microorganisms.
Laura has always enjoyed creating materials that entertain and inform the public. Before joining Augusta University, she worked as an Office Specialist at Largo Public Library in Largo, FL, which was voted Library of the Year in 2018 by the Florida Library Association. During her tenure, she collaborated with every department in the library, from Circulation to Outreach, to create posters, booklets, and brochures for library patrons. Additionally, Laura contributed to the planning and execution of numerous library events, including the 2019 Art Hops annual fundraiser, which attracted a record attendance of over 275 people.
